This is West’s first foray into video work since undertaking her degree at Glasgow School of Art. Taken from Adrian Stokes’ essay on Colour and Form in 1937, the title The Visual Grey references the act of memory and reinterpretation of imagery through dreamlike state. “Let our first thought about colour be as follows: when we shut our eyes we see a film of colour that scientists call the visual grey.” [Adrian Stokes, Colour and Form, 1937].
Comprising of reclaimed wooden furniture and videos panning over single-coloured objects, the work references the disposable culture in which we live and how as a throw-away society we dismiss the beauty in banal items.
