H.A.P.P.Y, The Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate

Acclaimed British artist Liz West brings a mesmerizing exhibition to Harrogate’s Mercer Art Gallery, inviting audiences to experience a dazzling interplay of light, space and reflection.

The exhibition is called H.A.P.P.Y as a counterbalance to Liz’s personal experience of Seasonal Affective Disorder (S.A.D), a condition linked to the shorter and darker days of Autumn and Winter. She experiments with colour and light to create environments that inspire joy and curiosity, and it’s fitting that this exhibition runs through the Spring and Summer, the time when Liz is at her happiest due to increased daylight and warmer weather.

Open 13 April - 5 October 2025

Processing… The Exhibition, Birmingham Design Festival

I am delighted that my new series of mini neon Concertina works will be exhibited for the first time at Birmingham Design Festival as part of 'Processing... The Exhibition'.

Universal. Ambiguous. Ethereal. Tricky to articulate… Process – how creative work happens – is the focus of BDF this year, and by extension, of this exhibition. From installation art to brand design, from furniture and textile to digital interface and code, this diverse body of work (and eclectic group of practitioners) are connected only by this thread – they’re generously giving us a peek behind the curtain, to help us understand how it was done.

Our Colour Reflection in Evi Lichtungen Licht Kunst Biennale, Germany

Our Colour Reflection created a conversation between the viewer and the setting using more than 700 mirrors made of coloured acrylic extending at different heights above the floor of St. Michaels Church, Hildesheim.

Reflected on their surfaces was the UNESCO World Heritage Site’s delicately crafted wooden ceiling, which shows a very detailed image of Christ’s family tree from the 13th century. Playful, elegant and engaging, the work projected its colors into the central nave of the church, revealing parts of the architecture that would otherwise be invisible. Influenced by the audience’s movements through the room it constantly created new situations and perspectives. The work could be attended both in the evening in the illuminated church room and during the day.

The fifth edition of the EVI LICHTUNGEN light art biennial took place from 25 to 28 January 2024
