Surround In: The Show Windows, Kong, Coventry

26 November 2021 -

Liz West has been commissioned to create a show window as part of the Coventry City of Culture. The window will be transformed into an illuminated and sensory site, overloaded with chromatic mixtures of light. Behind the blacked out window, through the circular aperture, audiences are offered an intimate encounter with the work and chance to see the blends of coloured light behind the glazing. This work asks people to explore and be curious in order to discover the visual feast and treat lying within the window.

This new site-specific work explores and demonstrates colour mixing in a three dimensional field. Behind the glass each line emits one single hue that then mixes with its neighbours to create a diverse blend of ‘new’ colours on the adjacent wall. This work explores Liz’s research into the relationship colours have to each other and how they affect the spaces they inhabit. This painterly approach also acts as a reflection to Coventry as a blended city and how we each affect the city we live in.

The Show Windows is co-produced in partnership with Coventry City of Culture Trust, Coventry Business Improvement District and RIBA. The Show Windows is funded by Arts Council England. TheShowWindows
