Exuberantly colourful, this limited edition print by Liz West has been published by King & McGaw in conjunction with the artist's exhibition ‘Our Colour Reflection’ at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 15th November 2024- 6th January 2025.
“As a child I used to love nothing more than a new pack of coloured pens; they offered potential and endless fun - whether it was using them for drawing, or ordering them into the spectrum! That joyful and systematic sentiment has stuck with me into adulthood and is woven into my life and work as an artist. I recently bought myself a very large pack of new marker pens - delightful - I had to test them out immediately. My overwhelming artistic instinct was to make a colour chart, a personal swatch book, a tester sheet. Was the plastic colour rendered on the pen lid exactly the same as the ink inside? Could I rely on these new tools as accurate colour matches? Was there enough colour choice within this massive pack? - all pivotal within the work I make. Laid out and mixed up like sugar vermicelli or sweets in a shop, 'Pick and Mix' is an ode to my younger creative self, and a playful testing ground for colour.” – Liz West
