Does colour change the way you feel? What does it feel like to be inside a rainbow? For the 2026 edition of the Bristol Light Festival artist Liz West invited visitors to drench themselves in the spectrum. West transformed an entire floor of Cabot Circus’s Multi-storey Car Park into an immersive and otherworldly experience by refracting light through carefully arranged coloured theatre gels. A vivid world was created, exploring human visual perception and how colour affects our emotions and our bodies.
Using coloured theatre gels, the installation saturates the space in a radiant spectrum of shifting hues, inviting audiences to walk through colour as if it were tangible. It offers an intimate moment of stillness and awe amid the city’s energy – a chromatic experience that speaks to perception, emotion and sensory delight.
