Hymn to the Big Wheel: Lumiere, Ushaw Historic House, County Durham

From 18 - 21 November 2021

Hymn to the Big Wheel will be exhibited at Ushaw Historic House in County Durham as part of Lumiere Durham 2021. This work was first commissioned by Canary Wharf Group.

Hymn to the Big Wheel is an energising beacon of luminous colour that radiates across the space it inhabits, the installation creates an intriguing and immersive interplay of coloured shadows. Hymn to the Big Wheel is an immersive sculptural work exploring the illusion and physicality of colour and natural light in space. Viewers become performers within the work as they move around the inside and outside of the structure exploring the changing optics and colour-ways mixing within the installation. The jewel-like colours create diverse mixes and blends when viewed from different angles from around the installation, as well as producing a sundial effect by casting multi-coloured shadows on the ground.
