Full Pop is derived from an elemental series of drawings made at the beginning of West's art career, whereby she employed a methodical approach to her drawing technique using invented systems and rules. Using the circular centre of a roll of tape as a template, West drew multiple individual coloured lines that were never to be repeated in the same format, making each circle unique. Many of West’s early colour-based light works and sculpture were inspired by these studies, which have never been exhibited in public before.
Revisiting these works with a fresh set of eyes has allowed West to rethink the drawings and amalgamate the series into a larger and more coherent piece. By rearranging and playfully collaging the striped circles, West has created a fluidity and narrative between the spots and direction of the stripes.
This limited edition print by Liz West is signed and numbered by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. Produced on textured Hahnemuhle paper, the circles are finished with a high gloss varnish.
