'Colour Rush' is a spatial drawing derived from a series of ink drawings that radiate kaleidoscopic patterns and vibrant colours in the vicinity of where it is located. A beacon of intricate colour relationships, the artwork aims to draw the visitor nearer for closer inspection and interaction. It is the luminous stripes that feature in this artwork that are the basis of West’s new octagonal light box of the same title, exhibited as part of the touring Light Festival Collaboration.
Positioned on a raised and mirrored plinth, this 8-sided light box is reflected and multiplied to create a dynamic and 'larger-than-life' work. Like looking into a kaleidoscope, this playful work encourages visitors to look from all angles; mirroring and melding themselves, the world around them and the artwork altogether. The meeting of colours acts as a physical and metaphorical meeting point for people, whether the work is located.
Limited edition of 25 published by King & McGaw to coincide with the Light Festival Collaboration, touring Light Night Wigan (20-22 November 2015), Canary Wharf (20-31 January 2026) and Oldham (20-21 February 2026).
